Fleeting Notes is designed to get out of your way. The interface is minimal by default, with just enough structure to keep your notes organized.

Dashboard

The Dashboard is the main screen you see when you open Fleeting Notes. It shows:

  • Recent Notes: Your most recently accessed or edited notes appear here for quick retrieval.
  • Search Bar: Filter and sort your notes by title, content, source, created date, or modified date.
  • New Note Button: Opens the editor immediately. On mobile, a long press activates voice-to-text.

The search bar lets you find notes fast:

  • Search by: Title, content, or source URL.
  • Sort by: Created date, modified date, or title.
  • Filter: Narrow results to a specific field — useful when you have many notes with similar content.

New Note Button

The New Note button is the primary action on the dashboard:

  • Tap: Opens a blank editor.
  • Long press (mobile): Activates audio capture and transcribes your voice into the content field.
  • Browser Extension: The source field is automatically pre-filled with the URL of the current tab.

Settings Menu

The gear icon opens the Settings screen, where you can:

  • Configure sync and Obsidian integration.
  • Manage your account.
  • Customize the editor and app appearance.

Mobile Layout

On small screens, the interface stacks vertically with the search bar at the top and the note list below. The New Note button floats at the bottom right.

Browser Extension

The browser extension sidebar gives you access to the full editor inline on any page. You can open it via the extension icon or with a keyboard shortcut.
